CHILD CARE

The program for school-age children, from kindergarten through eighth grade, will be led by Dianne and Elliott Barske, who have nurtured the youth of our church for many years. The program, Tending to God's Worl--Adventures in Alaska, was still under construction at press time--it will be structured to fit the number and ages of children attending--but ideas abound for all four days.

A day at the Alaska Zoo is planned, with the theme Tending to God's Creatures.  On 25 wooded acres in the beautiful hillside area of Anchorage, the zoo is home to more than 100 birds and mammals, almost all native to cold climates. More than just a tour, the program will incorporate a picnic lunch, a fun art project, and possibly a service project as well.

Another likely bet is a day at the Alaska Native Heritage Center--Tending to God's Cultures.  Established by the Alaska Federation of Natives, the nonprofit center enables visitors to experience Alaska's many diverse Native cultures in one place. It's buzzing in summer with activities inside and outside. Native dancing, games, and storytelling take place inside, while artists demonstrate their work, kids try Native crafts, and movies are shown in the theater. But the real draw for children is outside, where they can go through six authentic life-sized Native dwellings in a wooded area surrounding a lake.

Other activities may include Tending to God's People, a service project with local children in a disadvantaged area of town, and Tending to God's World, experiencing Alaska nature right in the city on trails, creeks, and possibly at a science center. Music will permeate the program, too.

Please visit First CC, Anchorage's Web site, www.fccak.org, for the latest. Also, for all aspects of your Alaska trip, you must see this great site for Alaska videos, http://alaska.org/videos.htm. See you in June!

For a child care registration form, please contact Carrie at cdahm@naccc.org or (800) 262.1620 ext. 15.

THE PASTORAL SEARCH & INTERVIEW ROOM

Open Saturday 1pm--Tuesday afternoon. One of the functions of the Division for Ministry (DFM) is to help churches and ministers who are seeking to find each other. We have developed search materials and profiles and hope to help everyone in this process. At 10:30am on Sunday, we invite those from Search Committees to gather for an informational time. We will also make the room available for churches wanting to have interviews with clergy candidates. This will be private and confidential and arranged through one of our DFM members who will be staffing the room.
